Sudden shaking of the ground that occurs when the bedrock beneath the surface shifts.
The shock wave emitted by the displaced bedrock may be strong enough to completely change the state of the earth’s surface by pushing up a cliff and causing a large crack in the ground. This can have shocking and disastrous consequences, such as the destruction of cities, the collapse of dams, landslides, tsunamis, or volcanic eruptions.
