About Tomato
A large annual plant of the Solanaceae family. It is said to be native to the Andes Mountains of South America and Mexico, and was cultivated by indigenous indios such as Peru and Bolivia. Introduced to Europe in the middle of the 16th century, it is now widely cultivated in the temperate and tropical regions of the world and is the most representative fruit vegetable. In addition to raw foods, it is especially produced as processed foods such as juice, ketchup, and puree.
In summer, flower branches are borne between the nodes and several yellow flowers are borne in racemes. The flower has a star-shaped corolla with a diameter of 2 to 3 cm, and the base is fused with 5 petals. The fruits are berries and initially green, but when ripe they turn crimson, pink or orange. There are many varieties, and there are many changes in the color and shape of the fruits.
